Funerary slab with a couple
Excavated in 1833-1839 on the Isola Sacra, by the marchesi Guglielmi of Vulci.
Date: c. 140-160 AD. W. 2.20, h. 0.80, d. 0.10.
The slab was used to close off the space for one or more bodies (loculus). The bed on which the deceased are lying is flanked by two female servants bringing wood and by two winged Genii carrying torches. Below the bed is a little dog. The woman is holding an object in her raised right hand.
