Urn of Fadia Nice, ordered by her husband Sextus Fadius Priamus

Excavated in 1824-1825 by Pietro and Felice Cartoni. In Marseille by 1867.
Date: 70-130 AD. W. 0.30, h. 0.35, d 0.25.

On the corners of the lid are theatrical masks. In the tympanum in between a peacock and a bird are fighting over a fruit. On the front of the container two ram's heads, projecting from the corners, carry a garland of fruit that four birds come to peck at. On the lower corners of the container are two more theatrical masks. On each side is a groove for the clamps that held the lid. In a simple frame is the inscription:

D(is) M(anibus)
FADIAE NICE
CONIVGI KARIS(simae)
SEX(tus) FADIVS PRIAMVS
To the gods of the underworld.
