Building V,XVIII,1, a large hall, was set against the city wall, between the Roman Gate and a secondary gate. It has been dated to the reign of Marcus Aurelius. Little remains of this secondary city gate, that was discovered in 1856 by Carlo Ludovico Visconti. It is 34 m. to the south of the Roman Gate. It is a later addition, perhaps contemporaneous with the rebuilding of the Roman Gate at the end of the first century AD. |
