Cities, villages, fortresses - Aargau - Note on the fortresses

We present only a selection of the military fortresses and watchtowers (see below for the complete list). Between Basel and Lake Constance stood a series of watchtowers that had a line of sight with each other. The towers can often be assigned to the reign of Valentinianus I, the years around 370 AD. They served as protection against Alemannic invasions.
