In 1914 part of a villa was excavated in the centre of Rüfenach, a village situated a few kilometers to the north of Brugg.

In the 19th century coins, slabs of marble, bricks and mosaic tesserae had been found in the village, suggesting that the villa was used until the middle of the fourth century.
