In Wahlen, at the locality Kilchstetten, the remains of a villa were investigated in the middle of the 19th century by the archaeologist and historian Auguste Quiquerez. Further excavations were carried out by Alban Gerster in 1927-1928. Three halls were found behind a porticus flanked by tower-like projections. The house was restored after a fire.
