Near Ferpicloz, to the south-east of Freiburg, at the locality Le Mouret, remains of a villa were excavated in 1865, 1917 and 1926. The buildings were situated on a peninsula between two former tiny lakes. They used an area measuring some 300 x 60 m. The main building (46 x 37 m.) had porticoes on the west and east side, on the west side flanked by tower-like projections.
Plan of the villa. A: main building; B: secondary building; C: baths; D: secondary buildings (traces); E: garden wall. Drack-Fellmann 1988, Abb. 369. To the north-west were baths. The excavated part measured some 16 x 14 m. Of particular interest is an octagonal room with a wall that was 1.30 m. thick. It has been called a water reservoir. A few coins suggest that the buildings were used from the first until the early fourth century.
Plan of the baths. 1: caldarium; 2: water reservoir; 3: tepidarium; 4: heated basin. Drack-Fellmann 1988, Abb. 370.
