In Lignières, to the west of the Bielersee, remains of a villa were discovered around 1840 at the locality Ruz du Plane, a bit to the north of the village. Among the finds were a skeleton and a lead water conduit. The building was then razed to the ground, and most of the stones were used in road building. The foundations of the main building (30 x 22 m.) were excavated in 1907. A coin was found of Julia Domna, wife of Septimius Severus. The building was destroyed by a fire.
Plan of the villa. Rollier 1911, 91.
