Villas - Schaffhausen - Siblingen-Tüelwasen

In the 1870's several buildings were excavated by Christian Georg Keller in Siblingen at the locality Tüelwasen. Three buildings, apparently belonging to the same villa, were described briefly.

Plan of the first building. Keller 1872, Taf. XXV.

The first building was 15.60 m. wide. In room A a hearth was found. It may therefore have been a kitchen. Rooms C and D had a hypocaust. The furnace was in room I.

Plan of the second building. Keller 1873, 470.

The second building must have been the main house. It measured about 41.10 x 42.60 m. Entrances on the north and south side led to a large central area. On the west side a porticus (C) was flanked by tower-like projections (B, D). Room I and perhaps also room G had a raised floor for heating. Remains of wall paintings were seen.

Plan of the third building. Keller 1874, Taf. IV.

The third building measured 27.30 x 12.60 m. In room B part of a raised floor was found (i-i), suggesting that grain was stored here. The building was destroyed by a fire.
