Introduction The paintings in the peristyle The paintings in the outer porticus The silver hoard The Gallo-Roman temple |
In the late 1980's a (mostly) silver hoard was found in the middle of the enclosed area. It was discovered by people scanning the terrain with metal detectors after deep ploughing. It consisted of:
- Two pairs of wide, decorated silver bracelets.
- Six simple silver bracelets.
- Eight silver spoons, of three different types. One has the inscription MARTI, "For Mars" (the deity) or "For Martius" (the owner).
- A solid gold ring with a banded agate.
- Forty-five bronze coins, struck between 37 and 243 AD.
- Nine silver coins, struck between 235 and 254 AD.

Barbarian incursions are documented in 253-254 and 259-260 AD, but these do not seem to have reached this area. Of course the inhabitants may have been concerned that they would. On the other hand, local circumstances cannot be excluded: a peasant revolt for example, or brigandage.
