Isola Sacra - South-east part - Cippi demarcating the Tiber

Four cippi demarcating the course of the Tiber were found in 1921, 1953 and 1957.

The cippi were placed by authority of the curatores riparum et alvei Tiberis, the curators of the baks and the bed of the Tiber. They are dated to 23-37 AD. They are all facing the south-east, and have almost the same text:

TIBERIS EX S(enatus) C(onsulto) TERMINAVERVNT

and on the back:

PVBLICO AVT PRIVATORVM
