Introduction The mosaic in room 1 The mosaic in room 40 The finds from room 40 Some other finds |
Room 1 may have been a dining room or reception hall. The entire floor is covered by a mosaic. In the front part of the room is a polychrome mosaic with hunting scenes, measuring 8.90 x 8.80 m. It is to be looked at from an apse in the back part of the room. Amongst geometric motifs are ten hexagons with depictions of hunters in the arena (agitatores and venatores) and of wild animals (a deer chased by a dog, a lion with a tamer, a bull, a hind, and a bear). In the apse is a black-and-white geometric mosaic. The mosaic has been dated to the first quarter of the third century.
