On the Maloja Pass a curious discovery was made by Armon Planta in 1972 at the locality Malögin: a stretch of road consisting of a platform, eight meters long, with an inclination of 25-30%. It has wheel ruts that are 1.07 m. apart. In between are 14 steps. In the rock face next to the road are six rectangular holes, 1.15 m. apart. Presumably bars were inserted in the holes and then used as levers to help the animals pulling the carts.
