In 1970 a small building was excavated in Zernez, behind the church of St. Mauritius.

It was entered through a porch, 1.40 m. wide and 1.80 m. deep. In the interior remains of a hearth were found and charred grain residues and peas. The finds belong to the late third and fourth century. The location has led to the suggestion that the building formed part of a mansio, an inn and resting place, or a mutatio, a place for changing horses.
