In 1875 a small part of a villa was excavated in Ferren, to the north of Hohenrain, some fifteen kilometers to the north of Luzern as the crow flies.
Plan of the excavated rooms. Bühlmann 1876, Taf. I.
On one of the walls a stretch of paintings had been preserved. They had a white background. The socle was divived into panels by black lines. Some panels had an imitation of marble, others plants. The upper part was divided into panels by red-and-black bands. Fragments of marble slabs and of paintings with red and blue paint probably came from a room on the first upper floor.
Drawing of the paintings. Bühlmann 1876, Taf. I.
