Cities, villages, fortresses - Ticino (Tessin) - Note on the settlements

In Ticino quite a few objects have been found in isolation, out of context.

  • In the Museo Plebano in Agno are two urns, one inscribed (EDCS-30800348).
  • In the ruins of the Castello di Pontegana in Balerna late-antique granite sarcophagi were reused as building material.
  • In the church of San Pancrazio in Brissago a funerary inscription was found (EDCS-05401729).
  • In Caneggio two late-antique sarcophagi, without a lid, can be seen.
  • Two inscriptions were found in the church of Gravesano, a funerary inscription and a dedication DIS DEAB(us) (EDCS-05100397, EDCS-36400230).
  • In Ligornetto two funerary inscriptions were found in the church of San Lorenzo (EDCS-05100597, EDCS-05100598).
  • In Lugano a granite sarcophagus can be seen near the cathedral of San Lorenzo. Two fragments of inscriptions were found. One, from the same church, was a dedication GENIO PATR[io] (EDCS-04900361, EDCS-08000784).
  • In Minusio a dedication to the Matres can be seen in a niche in the church of San Quirico (EDCS-30800347).
  • Three fragments of inscriptions were found in Novazzano, one mentioning a templum (EDCS-82600005, EDCS-82600006).
  • In the chapel of Santo Stefano in Pedrinate (Chiasso) a dedication to Jupiter was found (EDCS-05100595).
  • Two inscriptions were found in Rovio, one a dedication I(ovi) O(ptimo) M(aximo) (EDCS-73200013, EDCS-17100012). Several sarcophagi and lids of sarcophagi were reused as washing basins.
  • In Sonvico two inscriptions were reused in the chapel of San Martino. One mentions a quattuorvir from Comum (Como, Italy) (EDCS-05000344; EDCS-74900072).
  • In the church of Santa Maria Assunta in Sorengo (Lugano) an inscribed urn was found (EDCS-04900362).
  • In Tesserete (Capriasca) a granite sarcophagus can be seen in the church of San Stefano.
