In 1943 the discovery was reported of a small quarry of millstones near Chavannes-le-Chêne, to the south-east of the Lac de Neuchâtel. It was found below Mediaeval tombs. The circular imprints of hacked out millstones had a diameter of 0.40-0.45 m. More than forty unworked millstones were also found, with a diameter of some 0.40 m.
